Volos, Greece - Greenhouse PV Testing Site

Overview

The University of Thessaly (UTH) agrivoltaics greenhouse testing site is located in the Greenhouse Park at Velestino, Volos, Greece. The greenhouse environment is structured in four distinct experimental sections, each incorporating varying technological configurations: CO₂ enrichment, photovoltaic panel integration, a hybridized application of both technologies, and a control group.

UTH has installed photovoltaic panels inside its Gothic greenhouse and above the cultivation, to be able to rotate the solar panels according to their axis, thus making it possible to adjust their position according to the sun movement. The aim of this pilot is to develop an optimal photovoltaic management strategy, which will allow the maximum possible utilization of solar radiation for electricity production and at the same time ensure optimal cultivation development conditions.
